Waqt Ki Raftar Serial “The Speed of Time” Ignites a Classic Family Drama of Legacy, Betrayal & Bold Journalism

SABNetwork Classics has brought back one of the most gripping family sagas from the late 90s – Waqt Ki Raftar. Episode 1, titled “The Speed of Time,” drops viewers straight into the heart of the powerful Besharat family, where tradition, ambition, and hard-hitting journalism collide on the newspaper’s historic 40th anniversary.

If you missed the full episode, here’s a complete, spoiler-friendly recap packed with every major moment, dialogue, and turning point straight from the video.

The Grand 40th Anniversary Celebration

The episode opens with soul-stirring music and the title card “The Speed of Time.” The Besharat household is buzzing with pride. Vijay Raj Besharat (the respected patriarch often addressed as Desh Ratna) is showered with congratulations.

A heartfelt family moment unfolds as an elder reminds Vijay Raj:

“Son, the flame of the yajna that your father lit has completed 40 years today… This is the result of your hard work.”

The phone rings – it’s the District Magistrate (DM), Divya Mohan ji, personally wishing him and presenting a special gift on behalf of the administration. The DM’s words carry a subtle political undertone:

“We want that the reins of Prajastak newspaper should not be in your hands… we want the reins of the entire country to be in your hands.”

The family basks in glory, but the calm is about to shatter.

Manthan’s Shock: The Missing Scandal Story

Young, fiery investigative reporter Manthan has been waiting anxiously for the morning newspaper. His mother finally hands it over, but one glance at the front page and Manthan’s world turns upside down.

The explosive exposé on the DM’s massive land-grabbing scam – which Manthan spent months investigating, collecting concrete evidence, and even composing for the front page on this very anniversary edition – is nowhere to be seen.

Furious, he storms into the house and confronts senior family member Girdhari Lal ji:

“For the last four months we have been investigating the land grabbing scandal of the DM… We prepared the story after collecting the proof. It was supposed to be on the front page of the 40th anniversary of Prajastak… But today when I saw the front page, I was shocked! Who is the one who betrayed us?”

Girdhari Lal tries to calm the hot-headed journalist:

“When a person’s enthusiasm touches the sky, he should keep his conscious feet on the ground.”

Manthan is having none of it. He wants answers, not advice.

Family Breakfast Turns into Marriage Pressure Cooker

While Manthan simmers, the family gathers for breakfast. The conversation quickly shifts to Yogesh (Vijay Raj’s 27-year-old son), who is being pushed hard to get married. The wealthy Saxeria family has sent another proposal.

The family teases and pressures him:

  • “Now you are 27 years old. Now you should get married.”
  • “If daughter-in-law Rani comes to the house, I will also get some help.”
  • Sibling banter flies thick and fast between Vikrant and Mansi, with jokes about “senior or junior Saxeria” (one 80, one 50!).

Mansi even declares she won’t marry until all three daughters-in-law are in the house. The only condition laid down by the elders: the girl must be of their religion. The family decides to buy eight more days from the Saxeria side while they “convince” Yogesh.

The Office Showdown & Resignation Threat

Manthan cannot hold back any longer. He barges into the office of the “big boss” (a senior family member, possibly his uncle). Security tries to stop him, but he forces his way in.

Face-to-face, he demands:

“Sir, I want to know why the story whose proof had already been composed could not make the headlines of today’s Prajastak?”

The boss coldly replies that a “simple employee” is not entitled to any explanation. Manthan, in a fit of rage, offers his resignation on the spot.

A mysterious phone call later reveals that someone (possibly a political contact) is already aware that the DM’s land scams were supposed to be exposed today – and only Manthan and a handful of insiders knew about it.

Private Conversations & Hidden Family Tensions

Outside the house (away from “walls that have ears”), the family discusses Manthan’s background openly:

“Manthan doesn’t even have his father’s name to write after his name… His full name is Manthan Mahadevi Pandit.”

The conversation hints at deeper family dynamics, loyalty tests, and the fact that Manthan is treated differently despite being a brilliant journalist.

The episode closes on a tense but determined note. The patriarch hints that if Manthan brings even stronger evidence (specifically proof of a direct meeting between the DM and the builder), the story will be published – no matter the danger. The message is clear: in journalism and in the Besharat family, courage and truth come at a price.

Themes That Define Waqt Ki Raftar

  • Legacy vs. Change: 40 years of Prajastak built on sacrifice – will the next generation uphold the same values?
  • Journalism vs. Power: Can a family-owned newspaper stay fearless when corruption touches even the highest offices?
  • Family Bonds & Pressures: Marriage, inheritance, and hidden pasts create cracks in even the strongest households.
  • The Speed of Time: As the title suggests, time waits for no one – old promises, old scandals, and old family rules are all racing toward a breaking point.

Why Episode 1 is a Must-Watch

This premiere episode masterfully sets up an addictive mix of family drama, political intrigue, and investigative thrill. Manthan’s raw passion, the Besharat family’s internal politics, and the looming DM scandal promise fireworks in the coming episodes.

Classic 90s television at its finest – clean storytelling, powerful dialogues, and characters you instantly care about.
