Shubham Bhandari’s Unbeaten 96* Lights Up Aryan Regional Cricket Ground as UPCL Post 196 and Defend Comfortably
The 1st MDDA Cup 2026 kicked off with a bang at the Aryan Regional Cricket Ground as UPCL outclassed Agriculture in a high-scoring T20 thriller. In front of a passionate crowd, UPCL posted a commanding 196/6 in 20 overs after winning the toss and electing to bat first. Agriculture never recovered from early blows and were restricted to 93/6 after 12 overs, falling well short of the target in what turned out to be a one-sided contest.
Toss and Pre-Match Atmosphere
UPCL skipper won the toss and had no hesitation in choosing to bat on what looked like a batting-friendly surface. Agriculture captain Kiran Singh called tails but lost the crucial call. Chief Guest Mr. Lokesh Natiyal (Income Tax Officer) graced the occasion, while Organizing Secretary Mr. Deepak Tomar and umpires Sanjay Sen and Paritosh Dangwal oversaw proceedings. The stage was set for a cracking opener under the MDDA banner.
UPCL Innings: Bhandari’s Masterclass
UPCL got off to a shaky start when Agriculture’s Kiran Singh struck early, trapping opener in front of the stumps with an LBW decision. But that was the only joy for the bowling side in the powerplay.
Shubham Bhandari took charge in explosive fashion. The right-hander smashed boundaries at will, reaching his half-century off just 32 balls. His aggressive strokeplay, laced with elegant drives, powerful pulls, and towering sixes, kept the scoreboard ticking at a brisk pace.
The middle order provided solid support. Shekhar Pathak joined Bhandari in a blistering 30-run partnership off just 13 balls before falling to a sharp catch by Yugal Badoni off Shailesh Rana. Devendra Adhikari and Mohit Bhatt also fell in quick succession to Ashish Rawat and Vikas Singh respectively, but Bhandari remained unbeaten on a magnificent 96 as UPCL finished at 196/6.
Key contributions came from the entire top order, while the lower order ensured no late collapse. The innings was a perfect blend of power hitting and sensible running between the wickets.
Agriculture Innings: Early Collapse and No Recovery
Chasing 197, Agriculture needed a flying start but were rocked by accurate new-ball bowling from UPCL. Ashish Rawat was trapped LBW by Akshay Kumar Singh, and Yugal Badoni was brilliantly caught by Deepak Tomar off Kiran Singh (UPCL). Saurabh Badliwal showed some fight with a few clean hits but couldn’t build a substantial innings.
Himanshu Kumar tried to anchor the chase but was run out in a moment of poor calling. Wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals – Jasvir Chaudhary, Dinesh Negi, and others fell in the middle overs as the required run rate climbed beyond 12 an over.
By the end of the 12th over, Agriculture were reeling at 93/6 and still needed 104 runs off the remaining 8 overs. The middle and lower order simply couldn’t match UPCL’s disciplined bowling and sharp fielding.
Bowling Highlights
UPCL’s bowling unit was clinical. Amit Navani, Devendra Singh, Shailesh Rana, Ashish Rawat, Vikas Singh, and Kiran Singh (UPCL) shared the wickets efficiently. Special mention to Kiran Singh (UPCL), who picked up an impressive 5-wicket haul and earned a surprise special award for his match-defining spell. Tight lines, clever variations, and excellent field support made the chase look impossible.
Player of the Match
Shubham Bhandari was rightly named Man of the Match for his explosive unbeaten 96 that set up the victory. His innings was the cornerstone of UPCL’s dominance.
Post-Match Notes
The organizing committee thanked venue staff, scorers (Deepak Kashyap), umpires, and all sponsors for making the event possible. In a nice gesture towards the environment, trees were planted in honor of the Player of the Match.
UPCL have made a thunderous start to the 1st MDDA Cup 2026. With this convincing win, they send a strong message to the rest of the teams in the tournament. Agriculture will need to regroup quickly and come back stronger in their next outing.
